Teriyaki Boy = Bad Service

I forgot where I got the news, but I heard that the Lorenzo Group (Pancake House, Dencio’s…) has acquired Teriyaki Boy. It made a lot of sense – don’t you just feel that there are so many Teriyaki Boy branches sprouting left and right? That’s what happened to Dencio’s after it was acquired by the same group. Anyway, this fast expansion seems like something they can’t handle because of the poor service. I had dinner at Teriyaki Boy Galleria a while ago with Lawrence (welcome back to the Philippine Lawrence!), Lester, Margaret, and another friend of Lester. I had my mind set on Gyoza, and was very disappointed when the waiter told me that it wasn’t available anymore. I ordered Pork Ribs Teriyaki instead, and was also told that it was still frozen. Lester and company also ordered 2 viands that were not available. Did they run out of food right away? It was only 8:30PM, and it was a Saturday night – shouldn’t they make sure that there was enough food? The same thing happened to us at Teriyaki Boy Eastwood – it was around 9PM and there was no more Salmon. Granted, they want to make sure they have fresh food daily. They should still plan better – they should order more on fridays, especially during payday fridays.

Since I was really hungry, I ordered Miso Soup – something I could take while waiting for the food. The food arrived, with no Miso Soup in sight. We actually forgot about it, until we heard the lady beside our table complaining and bitching about how late their food arrived. She refused the viand that was being served, because they already finished eating. I think it was a tofu side dish. We remembered our Miso Soup, which we cancelled – no use for soup anymore. We continued eating, then later on, the lady started bitching and complaining again. Apparently, they were about to pay, and the bill still included the viand that they refused to accept. She mentioned that this was the second time this happened to her.

Is it too much to ask that if there are a lot of viands not available, the waiters should already ‘warn’ the customers before they order? I hope this is just temporary – I hope they can do something about it soon. Their food is really good but a great restaurant isn’t just about the food, it’s also about the service.

On Green Tomato and Favorite Restaurants

I have a new favorite restaurant – Green Tomato at Shangri-la Mall. So far, all the dishes I’ve tasted are yummy! I was able to taste Arrabiata, Amatriciana, Chicken Fingers, and Chicken Chunk Pizza. The prices are reasonable, and the service is okay. The only negative thing I can think of is that the area is almost always full, because of Mongkok. But that’s okay with me!

Speaking of favorite restaurants, I was devastated (yes, it’s not an exaggeration) when I found out that Sushi Mart was gone!!! Sushi Mart, though not a full-pledged restaurant, is one of my favorite restos ever. For me, they have the best kani sushi! The tempura is good, and the gyudon is even better! 80% of the time I’m in Megamall, I have lunch/dinner there. I was a frequent visitor over the years. It’s gone now. Sigh.

I have another favorite restaurant in Megamall – Krua Thai, along the Megamall Strip. I order the same thing every time we go there – Chicken Pandan and Krua Thai fried rice. I’m not confident that it will stay long, so I’ll enjoy it while I can.

Krispy Kreme

My parents came home from the US yesterday and they brought home 3 boxes of Krispy Kreme. They loved it so much so they wanted me to taste it because they remembered that I introduced them to Gonuts. I think I’m the only one among my friends who has’t tasted this. They’ve been telling me that it’s nothing great, that it’s similar to Gonuts. I agree, Gonuts is as good, but the texture is really different. Aside from the texture, I guess the only other thing that’s different is the variety of flavors.

I find it too sweet, which isn’t good coming from someone who loves sweets. All in all, after finally tasting the much-hyped Krispy Kreme, I can say that we’re not missing much. :) I just hope that Gonuts can add more flavors. :)

Belgian ChocoBites

I am currently addicted to the Belgian ChocoBites of Mister Donut. I asked Jovan to buy for me every single day. Of course, he never gets to buy them, because by the time he has time to go down to the caf or to mini-stop, they’re gone! I guess they’re really in demand.

Marta’s Cakes

Jovan and I went all the way to Alabang Hills to meet Marta Matute, who was recommended to us by a couple of suppliers. Alex Franco was kind enough to tell me that I can still look for a cupcake supplier ’cause he knew I really wanted to have a cupcake tree. Initially, I asked if we could meet in Makati. Marta said it was okay but she will only be able to bring a few albums with her. I wanted to see all her work so Jovan and I set an appointment with her for a saturday. We actually set the appointment two weeks ago.

It was worth it. HER CAKES ARE UNBELIEVABLE!!! They were so pretty, and she was very creative! I wish I had pictures to show you guys ’cause describing them really isn’t enough. Some examples: a) there was a cake that looked like a table, complete with spoon and fork, plate, with food on the plate; b) there was a cake that all the girly stuff on it, prada bags, make up kits, high-heeled shoes; c) she made cakes that were shaped like a shoebox, with sneakers on top of them, for an Adidas party; d) a 3 year old boy requested for a Fear Factor birthday cake, complete with roaches, maggots, worms (hay naku kids talaga!); d) she made small house cakes for a Brittany event.

I’m really excited with the cupcake tree design that we came up with!

I really, really hope she follows through, unlike the first cupcake tree supplier I *fell in love with*. She said she’ll send the quote asap, she’s just busy with some orders at the moment.

If you need cakes for any occasion (birthday, baptism, bridal shower, etc.), please, please try to check out her work! Complete detaisl are: 17 Dona Annie St., Alabang Hills Village, Muntinlupa City. You can call her at 0917-5207265, 7750787, 8423836. :)

The day after…

Aching… muscles… but it actually feels good! I hope we can really play badminton regularly.

Yoga

Anyone into yoga? It looks really interesting. If you have info of a place that has regular yoga here in Quezon City, lemme know!

ICE MONSTER!

I love Ice Monster! I always order Strawberry Ice. But when I crave for chocolate, I order the one with brownies. There’s really something about the consistency of the ice. It’s so much smoother than the ice in a regular halo-halo. We’d always crave for Ice Monster whenever we’re in Makati. Thank God they have more branches now! There’s one in Sta. Lu, and one at the Araneta Center (they place a LOT of toppings in this branch). I just fear that they’re expanding too fast – a sign that it’s another Zagu in the making. They should lower their prices, it’s a bit pricey at P60-P80.

Just want to share a picture of Tizers’ Moo Fries (see March 2 blog entry). :)

Try it. Promise, it’s YUMMY!!!

‘Tizers

Before you reach the doors of the Eastwood theaters you’ll pass a stall called ‘Tizers. They serve finger foods, such as fries, calamares, chicken fingers, and potato skins. I ordered the “Moo! Fries” and it was absolutely YUMMY! Moo Fries has garlic dip, cheese, and beef sauce. You gotta try it!

I hope that they’ll have the potato skins next time.
