Safe House

Mixed feelings about the movie.
On one hand, it’s a pretty good action movie, which went up a few notches with Denzel’s acting. He’s just so damn good! Such a brilliant actor, still going at it even if it’s “only” an action movie. A serious Ryan Reynolds is also great to watch, especially for fans. Of course they made sure they had a couple of topless shots – typical – but it didn’t hurt because the scenes did not look forced at all. The setting, South Africa, was a good choice because of the color and the grit, which probably explained the chosen approach of the director.
Hugo
I thought that the movie was a bit dragging during some parts but I couldn’t get over how beautiful it was, so for me, it was forgiveable. I love the setting – it showed how Hugo, though still a child, kept everything going in his own way. It reinforced that he was a good clockmaker, who keeps things going, and fixes broken things. And boy, did he “fix” George Melies, a broken man, who wanted to leave his past behind.
Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close
‘Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close’ is an extremely HEAVY movie. Seriously. I haven’t watched a hardcore drama movie like that in a long time. It’s something that I think we all need, once in a while. We need to take a break from all the romantic comedies, comedies, fantasies, and action movies.
U2 360 – Reminiscing
Last year, I witnessed one of the best concerts EVER, featuring the most amazing band. Last December 13, 2011, I watched U2 360 in Sydney with some of my best friends. And it was EPIC.
Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol
To be honest, I went into the cinema expecting the movie to be bad. From what I can remember, I really only enjoyed the first movie. I’m also not a Tom Cruise fan. Plus, how can a movie franchise come up with new something new for this 4th installment?
I was so wrong.
New Year’s Eve
[NOTE: This has spoilers, so don't read it if you haven't watched the movie yet...]
New Year’s Eve is an entertaining movie, even with all its flaws. But I think you can skip it and just wait for it on DVD.
Here are my thoughts on the movie:
Happy Feet Two!
I was really looking forward to this movie because I absolutely enjoyed the first one. And it definitely did not disappoint!
Though the first movie had better songs in general, this was still very entertaining, and it also had its fair share of fun songs. I liked it from start to finish! Everything was just right – cuteness, great visuals, the message, funny moments, and of course the awesome songs.
Here’s the list of things I really enjoyed (these are SPOILERS, in case you haven’t watched it yet):
2011 Movies
This was a good movie year for me! I am fortunate enough to be invited to press screenings of many movies so I was able to watch many movies this year! I got the idea of listing down all of the movies from Teckie. I’m planning to do this every year.
I hope I can post a review for every movie I watch I don’t want to get ahead of myself.
So here’s the list of the movies I got to watch this year, plus my ratings.
My TV Shows
I follow way too many TV shows. I watch while I’m working at home, I watch before I sleep, and I watch while in traffic. Some of the shows I follow are really good, but there are others that are really just guilty pleasures. Sometimes, I even wonder why I’m still following a show – there are shows that I don’t really like anymore, but because I’m heavily invested and I’m so into the story already, I continue to follow them because I want to know what’s going to happen next. It takes a lot for me to stop watching a show that I’m following.
Here’s a list of all the shows that I’m following:
Undercovers

When I found out that JJ Abrams has a new show, I got really excited. And then when I found out that it had the same premise as Mr. and Mrs. Smith, I got more excited! The show, entitled “Undercovers”, is about a couple who used to be spies. They retired after they fell in love and got into the catering business. They were asked to go back into the spy world, and then there was no turning back.
Alas, after watching the first two episodes, the two words that best describes the show is “NOT ENOUGH”. The show, being a spy show, tries to be exciting and action-packed, and it tries to be funny too with all the banter and bickering between the two lead characters. Sadly, it falls short of everything – for me, it’s just not exciting enough, not hot enough, not funny enough. The action scenes are bordering on lame and there are too few, the sexy scenes are not hot, and the bickering is bordering on annoying.
The biggest problems, in my opinion, are the following: casting of the female lead character, and the chemistry of the two lead characters. Gugu Mbatha-Raw, who plays Samantha Bloom, lovely as she is, just doesn’t come across as a credible and hot spy. It doesn’t even matter if she wears sexy clothes, and has some sexy scenes. She doesn’t look like a natural when she’s trying to unlock a door or difuse a bomb. And then when she has scenes were her husband Steven Bloom, who is played by Boris Kodjoe, I don’t see the chemistry.
I’ll see if the next few episodes will be better. I really hope so…
